Lion’s Mane Jellyfish

A close up shot of the underside of a lion’s mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata) off the northern coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. The lion’s mane jellyfish is one of the largest known species of jellyfish and can have bell diameters over 6 feet in diameter. This particular jellyfish’s bell was between 2-3 feet across. They are only found in the cold waters of the Artic, northern Atlantic, and northern Pacific Oceans. For context, the water was a frigid 49 degrees during the dive that this was taken.
